Jazz in the Park to hit a high note in Halesowen

First published in Local

THE grounds of a historic Halesowen house are being opened to the public for an afternoon of jazz.

Businessman –cum-musician Tony Billingham, who owns Lapal House Care Home, is staging his annual Jazz in the Park on Sunday July 13.

His Europa Jazz Band will provide the entertainment and visitors will also be able to view his 20 classic cars and newly-restored restored historic garden.

The cars, housed in a refurbished garage showroom, range from one of the first Minis to roll off the production line in 1959 to a Sinclair C5 and two Rolls Royces.

Mr Billingham said the garden is a miniature of William Shenstone’s 18th century landscaping at Leasowes, having been created by a friend of the poet gardener.

It has been restored to how it would have appeared in Victorian times, with the Jazz in the Park being the first opportunity for the public to see it.

Cream teas, homemade cakes and a barbecue will be served at the Lapal Lane South house from 2pm until 4.30pm.

There will also be a bouncy castle for children and a raffle. Tickets are £3 on the gate (no charge for under 16s) and proceeds from the afternoon will go to the elderly residents’ treats fund.
