STAFFORDSHIRE police is appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on the A38 near Burton on Sunday afternoon which seriously injured a Cradley Heath biker.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended along with colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service and found a blue Suzuki motorcycle on the southbound carriageway near the Barton-under-Needwood junction (known as the Barton Turn).

"The rider, a 52-year-old man from the Black Country area of the West Midlands, was airlifted to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire after being treated at the scene. He remains in hospital in a critical condition."

The spokesman added: "The man’s family have been informed and are being supported at this difficult time.

"The road was closed for approximately four hours whilst specialist collision investigators carried out a detailed examination of the scene. We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst the road was closed. "

An investigation into the collision is now underway and witnesses are asked to phone 101, quoting incident number 402 of 20 July.
