FIVE Halesowen companies joined together to raise cash for Acorns Children's Hospice by accepting the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Staff from Clarity Education, children's play centre The Owl and The Pussycat, Rio Lounge and Bar, beauty salon Crystal Rivers, and training provider Vocational Care Solution, took up the challenge which swept social media across the world over the Summer.

The 17 volunteers tipped ice-cold water tipped over their heads and each company donated £100 to the hospice.

Wendy Hughes, business development manager at Clarity Education, said: “Acorns is a fantastic charity and I am so touched by the care they provide for local life limited and life threatened children.

"It is such a worthwhile cause which is why we chose to support them through this challenge.”

The freezing cold supporters also held signs advising viewers on how to donate to Acorns via text and JustGiving. The challenge went viral on Facebook to spread the word about Acorns.

Sally Insley, community fundraising manager for Acorns in the Black Country, said: “We are so thrilled that these five local businesses joined the ice bucket craze and decided to donate their money to Acorns.

“As a local charity relying on the generosity of the community for our funding, acts like this allow us to continue providing care and support for life limited children and their families, which can cost up to £750 per day per child.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice aims to help to provide palliative care to the 2,000 plus children in the region living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and support for their families.
