WANNABE UKIP MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis has poured scorn on Labour claims that his party would destroy the foundations on which the NHS is built.

Dean Perks accused the Labour Party of sending out “hypocritical and untrue” literature.

The prospective parliamentary candidate said it was claimed UKIP leader Nigel Farage wanted an insurance-based system to fund the NHS and that the fledgling right-wing party would charge patients for GP appointments.

Mr Parks said: “I find it somewhat unpalatable that our beloved NHS is going to be used as a point scoring football in this year’s General Election debate.

He admitted Mr Farage did float the idea of an insurance-funded NHS in 2012, but said the proposal was unanimously opposed by the party Mr Perks said: “I would never and could never condone the NHS being funded in any other way than through taxes as it currently is.”

He added: “UKIP policy on the NHS is very clear - free at the point of delivery and time of demand.”

Mr Perks accused Labour of hypocracy, claiming repayments from the party’s controversial Public Finance Initiatives, introduced when it was last in power, were “crippling” NHS trusts.

Although he praised frontline staff, he said the NHS wasted a lot of money which UKIP would address.

“We employ consultants through agencies who don’t wish to be directly employed as they earn more via the agency. Not to mention how much is wasted paying over the odds for goods such as loo rolls,” he said.

Mr Perks said UKIP would ensure GP surgeries are open at least one evening a week where there is demand to reduce pressure on hospital accident and emergency.

He claimed: “If there are not radical changes to the way the NHS is run in this country the debate for changes to the way it is funded will become inevitable.

“Only UKIP are addressing issues to make sure it remains a tax payer funded free service for all our citizens.”
