THE controversial housing development which saw environmental campaigners lose out after fighting it for years has sold out.

All 59 properties at the Barratt Homes built The Pavilions, Coombs Road, have now been sold two years after the first went on sale.

Environmentalists waged an unsuccessful campaign to stop St Modwen getting permission to build its development, permission was granted in 2011.

As part of the deal St Modwen built a new sports club, funded new facilities at Olive Hill Primary School and build new paths on Coombs Wood green wedge.

The Pavilions include two, three and four bedroom houses were popular with house-hunters and proved Halesowen is seen as one of the best places in the Black Country to raise a family. The development's success, however, will worry environmentalists who are fighting to stop yet more houses being built on the town's greenbelt by St Modwen and other developers.

Andrea Shotbolt, Barratt Homes West Midlands senior sales manager, said: “The Pavilions has been an important development for us and we’re over the moon that people have chosen to create a new home here.

"When building a development our aim is not just to build houses but homes and communities too."

She added: "We feel like we have achieved that here.”

Barratt Homes is hoping to replicate its success in Halesowen with three developments in Sandwell. The Lyng, West Bromwich, Windmill Heights and Windmill Court in Smethwick which include a variety of house styles.

Windmill Heights, Messenger Road, has two bedroom homes available as part of the low cost housing scheme in conjunction with Sandwell Council.

Miss Shotbolt said: "An eligibility criteria exists so please ask us for further information, Windmill Heights also offers three bedroom homes priced from £165,950 to £172,950, for more information please call the sales centre on 0121 565 2149."
