SANDWELL police are searching for a silver private hire taxi which knocked a young motorcyclist off his bike, leaving him with serious leg injuries, in Rowley Regis.

The 21 year-old was rushed to hospital for treatment following the crash, on Springfield Lane, shortly before 5am on Saturday, April 4.

Doctors confirmed the motorcyclist had broken his leg, leaving him in splints for several weeks, as a result of the crash.

The driver of the taxi failed to stop following the crash and police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area or who may know of the vehicle involved.

Sergeant Dean Booth, from Sandwell Police, said: "Having spoken to a few witnesses so far, we believe the car was a silver Vauxhall Vectra or Ford Mondeo and was bearing private hire plates.

"The car will have had front end damage as a result of what happened and so someone must know where it is, or may have been asked to do repairs.

"We urge those people to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sandwell Police by calling 101 or alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
