FORMER England and Wasps player Huw Davies has offered to join Stourbridge Director of Rugby Neil Mitchell on his epic 100 mile cycle ride in Surrey this summer.

Mitchell has already recruited Huw's brother Ceri Davies and First XV prop forward Adam Sturdy, along with former chairman Pete Trinham to accompany him in the event this June.

The intrepid cyclists will be attempting to raise funds for the charity set up by former Stourbridge player Paul Barker who was tragically struck down with a rare bone cancer which resulted with him having his leg amputated.

Paul and his fiancee Leah will be attending Stourbridge's final game of the season against Harrogate on April 25 to thank everyone at the club who has supported them.

Mitchell took part in last year's Surrey Classic and admitted he found the event hard going.

He said: "Both Ceri and Huw are keen cyclists and asked if they could join me as they both know Paul Barker.

"I'm just grateful for their company because I spent most of last year's event cycling on my own.

"The majority of people who take part in the Surrey Classic are pretty serious cyclists and compete on bikes worth £1,000's.

"I don't know what they made of me when I turned up at the start line on my mountain bike.

"I managed to keep up with the leading group for the first eight miles or so, but once the hills kicked in, I was on my own!

Mitchell plans to set up a just giving page prior to the event, details of which will appear on Stourbridge Rugby Club's website.
