DELERICT wasteland in Halesowen and Rowley Regis is being used to depict a devastated post-apocalyptic world in a major new film.

Fatal Attraction actress Glenn Close, Bond girl Gemma Arterton and Paddy Considine have all been in town filming scenes from the film She Who Brings Gifts.

Based on M.R. Carey's best selling 2014 novel The Girl With All Gifts, the film is set a generation after the world has ended and Dudley had several derelict locations that fitted the bill.

Exact locations have been kept top-secret but crews will also be filming in Dudley, Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent and Cannock Chase over the next eight to 10 weeks.

The movie has received financial backing from Creative England’s West Midlands Production Fund and it is the biggest investment the organisation has ever put into one movie.

In addition to financial support, Creative England's production services team have also worked extensively with the film's director Colm McCarthy to help source suitable locations, facilities and locally based crew members.

The team also worked to facilitate production by securing filming permissions for street scenes and for some environmentally sensitive locations.

Camille Gatin, film producer, said: "The West Midlands has offered a variety of urban and rural, modern and period locations that will give the film the scale it deserves.

"The local knowledge and enthusiasm of Creative England and their staff has been invaluable for setting up the shoot and has made working in the West Midlands a highly efficient and positive experience."

Richard Holmes, senior film executive at Creative England said: "Bringing larger-scale feature films like this to the West Midlands not only supports local talent, it also enriches the industry, generates jobs for freelancers and brings economic activity to the region - both through the direct spend a production makes whilst filming and also by enhancing the profile of the West Midlands as a film and TV drama friendly hub."
