A HEALTH and safety-conscious Rowley Regis school has bagged a prestigious "gold" award - for the second year running.

The Westminster School joined a range of organisations who were presented with Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) occupational health and safety awards at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel.

It is the only school in Sandwell to have received the accolade for two consecutive years, which follows a "silver" in 2013.

Oliver Flowers, executive manager of the Curral Road special school, said: "I am really pleased that for the second year running all our hard work paid off.

"Health and safety is something that permeates through the core of the school and without the help and support of all the staff and pupils it would not have been possible.

"Two golds and a silver award isn’t enough - in the years to come we will be working more closely with RoSPA to obtain the esteemed Gold Medal awarded after successfully achieving five gold awards.”

The awards recognise organisations that have demonstrated the best health and safety management performance within their industry sectors.

Entrants must demonstrate a "consistently excellent and continuously improving performance" and, ideally, provide evidence of a particular initiative or innovative approach.
