THE summer fun for Dudley borough youngsters continues throughout August with free fun days and the return of playweek.

Children’s amusements, balloon-modelling and face painting will be among the activities featuring at the three fun days.

Taking place between 11am and 3pm, the first fun day will be at the Moor Centre, in Brierley Hill, on Tuesday August 11, before moving onto Stone Street Square, Dudley, on the Wednesday, and finishing up on Thursday with a day in Somers Square, Halesowen.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, Dudley cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “It is great to know that wherever we are in the borough there are exciting activities for our youngsters to get involved with during the summer holidays.

“It is even better that, for this event, there is no cost for them to take part either.”

Starting on Monday August 3, a week of free play events, run by the council, is returning to five parks across the borough.

During the week there will be group games, sports, camp fires, den building, climbing wall, crafts, road awareness, baby zone, sumo wrestling, assault courses, skittles, tug of war, glass painting and stalls.

Last year’s playweek was the most successful yet, with more than 3,000 children attending over five days. Each f the five events start at noon and finish at 4pm.

This year the week starts off at Huntingtree Park, Halesowen, on August 3, followed by Silver Jubilee at Coseley on Tuesday 4. Wednesday’s event this year will be at Steven’s Park in Wollescote, while Dudley's Priory Park will host on Thursday, before the week concludes on Friday, August 7, at The Dell, Brockmoor, Pensnett.

Councillor Ian Cooper, Dudley cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Playweek is a runaway success every year and takes place across the parks in the borough to give everyone a chance to get to their nearby park.

“The activities are all staffed by professional playworkers and there is something for children of all ages at each event.”

To take part, participants just have to complete a basic registration form at each park, while children under the age of eight need to be accompanied by an adult at all times.
