THE heartbroken widow of the Rowley Regis telecoms engineer who was killed at work has revealed they only had been married a week.

Matthew Harding, a 27-year-old father of two, was working for Virgin Media on a communications box when a Citroen Picasso hit him and a colleague.

His devastated widow Danielle Harding, who was with him when he died in hospital, paid tribute to "the love of her life."

She said: "“We are well and truly heartbroken. I don't know how we're all going to go on without you.

"Our babies are devastated because daddy is gone. There is no man out there who could or ever would be as amazing, caring and loving as you."

She added: “You truly wore your heart on your sleeve babes. I'm so honestly grateful I had the pleasure of knowing you and being your wife. You really made us whole. Our worlds have been completely broken at this great loss.

"Our lives will never be the same. Me and the boys miss you like crazy and love you like you'll never believe - you were our hero. Rest in peace babes, until we meet again.”

Tributes from friends and family were paid to Mr Harding on Facebook.

Janet Seymour said: “Such a tragedy for this family, only married last week, its just awful, you are all in our thoughts.”

Kate Bowden added: “So shocked to hear the news, what a cracking lovely loyal young man you were Matt.

“His children have been robbed from a loving father. His wife of a husband. They were just starting out family life.

“God bless you Matt. May you rest in paradise. Thoughts go out to your family.”

Mr Harding suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to the major trauma unit at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a critical condition and died on Tuesday night.

Brigitte Trafford, chief corporate affairs officer at Virgin Media, said: “Following a serious accident on Monday when a car struck two of our engineers who were working on a roadside cabinet in Coseley, one has since died from his injuries.

"Our deepest sympathies and condolences are with the families involved."

She added: "We are assisting the police with their investigation.”

His colleague suffered a broken arm and jaw, and a twisted ankle. He was taken to Russells Hall Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Two boys, aged 16, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and have been released on police bail.
