THE Heathens Speedway Supporters Trust is holding an all day festival to celebrate the launch of the new fans organisation.

On Saturday, September 19 the trust is holding a free fun day followed by a ticketed launch party at Old Hill's Spring Meadow Social Club.

Spencer Billingham, from the trust, said: "There will be a day of celebration heading into a party through till late on the evening, all fans are welcome to reminisce the past and celebrate the future of our beloved club."

A host of famous Heathens faces from the present and past will be attending.

Between 10am and 4pm there will be stalls, memorabilia, facepainting, games, food as well as screenings of historic exploits on the track.

Black Country funnyman and singer Jonny Cole is headlining the evening concert and is being supported by the band Scarbelly, tickets cost £5.

Since returning to the shale back in 2010 the Heathens have been unsuccessful in finding and securing an available piece of land in which to build a stadium of their own and rely on renting off local rivals Wolverhampton Wolves and Birmingham Brummies.

It is 20 years since the curtain went down on the Heathens racing at their historic Dudley Wood home but the fire still burn bright among fans who long for a homecoming.

Mr Billingham said: “From this we hope to secure the long term future of Cradley Heath Speedway, not just a speedway team but a team with a proud history and an influential part of the Black Country.

"We are keen to work alongside the current management in place at the club the trust fund is proposed to join forces with the current Heathens Speedway Supporters Club (HSSC) to boost funds."
