A NEW Saturday club for dementia sufferers is to be launched in Halesowen, offering activities including arts and crafts, music, flower arranging and cooking.

The group, based at the Brett Young Centre, in Old Hawne Lane, is being run by Creative Support, which offers a dementia service across the Dudley borough.

It will be launched on December 12, with a ceremony between 12.30pm and 2.30pm, when people are invited to try out taster sessions, meet the team and enjoy afternoon tea.

There will also be a bake-off competition to be judged by the Mayor of Dudley.

Aiesha Parker, development officer for Creative Support, said: "The Saturday Dementia Club marks a new and exciting era in Creative Support’s dementia service provision in Dudley.

"Individuals will be able to take part in and enjoy a range of engaging and meaningful activities including reminiscence activities, arts and crafts, music, flower arranging, cooking and more, all delivered by trained staff and a dedicated team of volunteers.

"As well as access to all of these activities, the daily price for the club also includes travel to and from the Brett Young Centre and a freshly cooked two course meal."

Anyone who wants to enter the bake-off contest should contact Aiesha on 07580 969 368.

She also appealed for volunteers to help at the club, particularly anyone with a hobby or "passion" they would like to share with others.

"We have a range of rewarding volunteering opportunities that can give you hands-on experience of working with individuals living with dementia," she added.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Jo Marsden on 01384 896 737.
