MORE than 1,500 would-be students came through the doors of Halesowen College for recent open events that transported them into the digital future.

They stepped into a world where "virtual reality" was brought to life, with new technology, including the Oculus Rift, Google Cardboard and iPad Robot systems to help in learning.

College principal Keith Bate said: "We were delighted to welcome so many people to the college and to promote our new digital technology.

"This is at the forefront of our teaching and facilities to enhance learning and prepare our students for higher education and the needs of employers."

The college has recently spent £20 million upgrading its facilities and construction has now started on a new £3 million performing arts centre, due to open next September.

It will provide accommodation for rehearsals and performances of music, drama and dance.

The college is due to hold two more open days - on January 23 and March 19 - from 10am to 2pm.
