PARENTS of a Halesowen baby girl have been jailed after she suffered appalling injuries, including fractures to both arms and seven broken ribs.

Experts concluded the eight-month-old child, who also had a large number of bruises over her body and limbs, had suffered serious injuries on at least two separate occasions.

The baby was found in a flat in Ankerdine Court by paramedics after a 999 call by her father, Wayne Jones, who complained of feeling suicidal.

Jones made the call as he was babysitting while the child’s 19-year-old mother, Abbie Jones, had gone out for the evening.

Bernard Linnemann, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court: "The cruelty must have been serious - whoever inflicted it.”

The child appeared to be in pain was taken to hospital along with Wayne Jones who was discharged but his daughter was then found to be badly bruised and doctors quickly diagnosed the fractures."

Wayne Jones, aged 27, and now living in Northfield, Birmingham, denied causing or allowing a child to suffer serious injury, but was convicted by a jury l and jailed for two-and-a-half years by the judge.

Abbie Jones, his former partner, admitted the offence and she was sent to prison for 20 months with the court being told it was still unclear who was directly responsible for the injuries suffered by the baby.

Mac Davies, defending the mother, said she was full of shame and remorse for what had happened.

Benjamin Nicholls, for the father, said it was his telephone call that lead to the injuries being uncovered.

Judge Kristina Montgomery QC told the defendants their child had suffered serious fractures adding: "You both failed to protect her from those assaults."
