ARTS collective Cradley Heath Creative is staging its second festival in April.

The Grassroots Festival will be at the Hollybush pub, Newtown Lane, on the weekend of April 16 and 17.

Last March, the group held the Locked In showcasing work by artists, photographers, craft and film makers, staging performances by musicians, poets and a play by a first time playwright.

Fifty-two artists took part and around 250 people attended the day.

Lizzy Lee, Cradley Heath Creative’s secretary, said: "It was really popular, it showed what a mass of talent there is around here and there was a real buzz in the place.’

"This year Cradley Heath Creative hope to repeat that success and up the game."

There will be two stages - one indoors and another in the group’s adapted horse trailer, mobile arts venue the Oss Box.

After the Grassroots Festival the Oss Box will be turned into a pin hole camera as Lizzy Lee has won an Arts Council of England grant to develop her photographic skills.

The group also wants to run taster workshops, some aimed at adults and youth, giving creative people a chance to share their skills with the public.

Mrs Lee said: "The aim is to get creative people, amateur and professional, making new work for the festival and responding to the theme 'grassroots'.

"We chose the title because its easily interpreted in so many ways and takes in ideas of local identity, history, nature, family, what makes a community tick.

"Audiences will get a kick out of finding out how these creative people are thinking."

Creative people can register their interest through the group’s Facebook page Cradley Heath Creative or email Dominic on lordhofr@gmail.com.
