A VIOLENT Halesowen spurned lover who brutally attacked his former partner just days after she had ended their five year relationship has been jailed for one year and nine months.

Lee Astley had been given his marching orders by the woman because of his violent behaviour and she later told police officers: "I felt like a slave to him. He terrified and abuse me."

Sarah Allen, prosecuting, said Astley forced his way into the home he had shared with the victim and after smashing ornaments he grabbed a large kitchen knife.

He then threw the knife at his ex-partner and it left her bleeding heavily from a large cut on her thigh, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

She then ran upstairs but she was followed by Astley and he kicked open the door to her bedroom before repeatedly punching her about the head and body.

The savage attack ended as quickly as it had began and as he left Astley, aged 33, grabbed her mobile telephone and smashed it to pieces.

But a frantic call the woman had made to the emergency services as she tried to get away from Astley was heard by the operator as the line stayed open, added Miss Allen.

The woman was taken to hospital and doctors found the wound to her thigh was deep but not wide although she did also suffer cuts and bruising to her head and body.

Astley of Teme Road admitted wounding and he was told by Recorder Stephen Thomas: "You armed yourself with a fearsome weapon and you threw it at your former partner."

Blondelle Thompson defending told the court the victim had been convicted of assaulting Astley in 2011.

She said they were a couple who "drank a lot" adding: "He is a man who has had problems. He lashed out in frustration. He is a man who finds it hard to express himself in situations such as the break-up."
