STUDENT musicians at Halesowen College are tuning up to showcase their talents in the annual Mayfly Festival.

The event is an opportunity for second year students to show off their performance skills in one last big gig before graduating.

This year’s theme for Mayfly at Old Halesonians Rugby Club on Friday May 20 is UK vs USA.

Festival representative Sam Griffiths said: “Each band had to pick out a decade - 60s onwards - and a country out of a hat and then perform a tribute act from their decade and country.”

Tributes will include ELO, Stevie Wonder, Blondie, Lulu, Aerosmith, The Script, Madness, REM and No Doubt, starting at 6pm.

During the day there will also be various other performances and activities such as dance, drama, performances by first year music students, local primary and high school pupils, although they are not open to the public.

The festival is a major event in the college’s calendar and organisers hope it will attract big crowds to the evening gig.

Tickets, priced £5 and £3 for under 12s, will be available on the door from 5.30pm.
