A PROJECT designed to improve the environment for pedestrians in Sandwell is looking for views from members of the public.

Sandwell Streets for People wants to find out what people think so realistic proposals can be put forward to boost the quality of the walking environment.

Environmental regeneration charity Groundwork West Midlands is working on behalf of Sandwell Council and will be visiting groups across the borough.

A Community Street Audit will be carried out for each town with residents walking routes with project staff to identify the barriers that prevent more journeys by foot. They will consider issues including accessibility, surfacing, lighting, traffic, and the number of safe road crossings.

The amount of litter and anti-social behaviour will also be looked at, along with signage, how appealing the walk is and how safe it feels.

Groundwork will use the audits to compile a report for each route and provide recommendations to overcome physical and emotional barriers to walking and encourage people to get out on foot for everyday journeys.

The public are invited to the launch events which are being held throughout the borough.

These include for Oldbury, on Thursday June 2, at the Lion Farm estate play area off Hartlebury Road, and for Rowley at Codsall Coppice, Codsall Road junction with Trejon Road, on Friday June 3.

Both events will include children’s activities as well as consultation activities from 10am until noon.
