ROWLEY REGIS golf pro Jamie Cundy is once again off to coach at the world's most famous tournament in the sport - where he has already given tips to improve the swing of former tennis ace Tim Henman.

Mr Cundy, advanced golf pro at Dudley Golf Club, Turners Hill, will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Jordan Speith - and even royalty - at next month's open tournament at the Royal Troon course in Scotland.

It is the fourth year in a row he has been appointed as a coach for members of the public attending the Troon open championship, who flock to the Royal and Ancient and Professional Golfers Association stand for coaching to improve their own game.

"Last year I taught Tim Henman, who is a very good golfer himself, at Troon," said Mr Cundy, aged 47.

"He plays off a one or two handicap - but I'm slightly better, playing off scratch."

Mr Cundy, who two years ago achieved the accolade of becoming a PGA director of golf, described the Royal Troon tournament as "amazing" and said it was a "great honour" to be chosen to coach there again.

"It's huge - there are 35,000 spectators there every day and we teach about 7,500 members of the public between about 15 of us coaches at the event," he added.

"We see lots of celebrities and even royalty.

"Prince Andrew normally comes to our stand. Although I haven't taught him myself yet, this might be the year I do."

Mr Cundy, who has been a professional golfer for 25 years and has just returned from teaching the sport to hundreds of children at the BMW Golf Championship at Wentworth, will arrive at the Scottish golf course on July 9 and will begin eight days of coaching there the following day.

The tournament itself runs from July 14 to 17, attracting the top 150 golfers in the world.

Ten golf nets are set up for coaching in a large marquee and their swings are videoed for the coaches to give tips on how to improve.
