FOOTBALL pundit Chris Kamara is backing a soccer fundraiser in Halesowen in the hope it will help shoot an "Hour of Need" campaign towards its £1 million goal in aid of the Marie Curie cancer charity.

The Yorkshire Building Society branch in Hagley Mall, Halesowen, is inviting customers and the public to a football themed event on Friday July 1.

There will be football themed cakes for sale, a sweepstake and a "guess the football sweets in a jar" competition.

"Kammy", who is a Marie Curie ambassador, said: “Customers and colleagues from around the country have so far helped to raise a fantastic £900,000 and with continued support, we can help them on their way to reaching their £1million goal.”

Lorna Kendrick, manager of the Halesowen branch of the building society, said: “We’re so proud that customers in Halesowen have helped us be on the ball and make this the society’s most successful ever national fundraising campaign.

"The Hour of Need campaign is having a real impact on terminally ill people and their families and we will continue to raise even more money throughout the rest of the year.

“Along with the backing of Kammy we’re hoping to get plenty of local support for our football themed activities on the day.”
