A STAR-STUDDED cast helped make Dads Army the British comedy event of the year and the film is being shown at Oldbury Rep on Friday (tomorrow).

The Screen on the Green at the Barlow Theatre should be packed to see Captain Mainwaring and his crack troop of volunteers get into various wartime scrapes.

Toby Jones takes on Arthur Lowe's iconic role of Captain Mainwaring and he is supported by Bill Nighy, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon and Bill Patterson.

It is 1944 in Walmington-on-Sea and the Home Guard is suffering from a low motivation until a glamorous journalist, Rose Winters arrives to cover a report on the platoon's exploits and activities.

When M15 discover messages being sent from the sleepy seaside town to Berlin the race is on to find the German spy.

Tickets cost £3.50 on the door and the film starts at 7.30pm.
