OVER 100 children and young people enjoyed an afternoon of fun, celebrating the Golden Jubilee of Romsley St. Kenelm’s Scouts.
The group was founded in 1966 with a group of just 20 youngsters and now has 70 members, boys and girls aged from 6 to 17 years-old, supported by voluntary leaders and helpers.
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts were joined by Rainbows, Brownies and Guides at Romsley Scout Centre for the Big Birthday Bash, a special occasion organised by the leaders and parents of the group.
Beaver Scout leader Kate Yarnold said: “We couldn’t let our 50th Anniversary pass without a special party to celebrate.
“The weather was sunny and all the children and young people had a great time”.
The party started with a performance by the award-winning illusionists Slightly Unusual who entertained with their captivating act.
This was followed by games and activities including a bouncy castle, graffiti wall, pop bar and games of skill. The youngsters, who were aged from 5 to 14 years-old, then enjoyed a picnic tea with golden cupcakes.
The day finished off with more entertainment before the party-goers headed for home with golden party-bags.
The party was one of a number of special events being held during the year for the group’s 50th Anniversary.
The next event is on September 24 when villagers and former members are being invited to a Celebration Day at the Scout Centre, which will include an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia from the Group’s 50 year history.
In the evening there will be music, a fish and chip shop and fireworks.
