YOUNG wannabe cricketers are set to be bowled over at a fun day being run at a Halesowen cricket club on Sunday August 28.

Coombs Wood Cricket Club hopes the event will boost its campaign to develop its junior section.

The event will feature fun dads v lads and women’s games in the morning from 10am followed with a 40 over game for the u13s against Sunday team Woodleigh Cricket Club, in the afternoon.

The day will be a three generation affair for Jeff Walker, his daughter Lisa Tierney and grandson Alex Tierney, who will play in the three games.

Professional coach David Banks is helping at the club which currently has competitive youth teams in three age groups, u9s, u10s and u13s.

The club boasts four senior teams, but Mr Walker said it was keen to increase the number of junior teams to give different aged children greater opportunities to play.

It is hoped the fun day will attract youngsters and their families interested in finding out more about the game and what Coombs Wood has to offer.

There will also be a barbecue, raffle, face painting, nail painting and live entertainment in the evening, with money raised going to develop junior cricket.
