DUDLEY Council’s Dementia Gateway service is encouraging people to give their views on local dementia care to shape future services.

The Government’s department of health has launched the first phase of their ‘Dementia 2020 Citizens’ Engagement Programme’ which has been developed alongside people with dementia and their carers.

Through a national survey, there is a call to find out people’s views and experiences of dementia. The survey focuses on the quality and experience of getting a diagnosis, the level of care and support received and how aware and understanding of dementia local communities are.

It also provides the opportunity to see where further improvements may be needed and to influence and improve the delivery of dementia care and support locally.

Councillor Qadar Zada, cabinet member for adult social care, said: “Many of us will have experience of the condition, either personally or when a family member or friend is diagnosed.

“This is why it is important that we make sure our services for people with dementia, and for their carers and family, are the right services which respond to the needs and wants of local people.”
