THERE will be more fun to be had at this year's Halesowen Carnival after organisers announced they are extending its opening hours.

On Saturday, July 1, the carnival will be open from noon until 8pm signal the start of the month-long Black Country Festival which will see celebrations across the region.

The event at Highfield Park, now in its third year since returning to the town's social calendar, will have a beer and food festival for the first time.

Lye's Sadler's Brewery, which dates back to 1900, has announced it will be sponsoring the 2017 carnival.

Brewery managing director Chris Sadler said: "On behalf of everyone at Sadlers Brewery, I would like to say what an honour and pleasure it is to be part of this fantastic local event.

"It has really sent a buzz through the entire team and everyone connected with our company."

He added: "There is nothing better than bringing the community together by organising such a fantastic event.

"A huge well done to Councillor Stuart Henley and the rest of his team for all their hard work in making this happen.

"We hope everyone has a fun filled day, and we will see you at the bar.”

Halesowen North Cllr Stuart Henley, carnival committee chairman, said: "We are delighted to have secured the sponsorship of such a renowned Black Country company as Sadler's Brewery.

"Due to the success of last year's carnival we have extended the opening hours and it will be bigger than ever.

"There will be loads of live music, Jones fairground rides, look alike children’s characters, a dog show, plus a beer and food festival, and entry will be free."

He added: "The day will be packed with something for everyone. Made in Birmingham TV will be filming at this years event so get yourself along to try and get on TV.

"We are still on the lookout for local musicians and performers who would like to get on stage, also we are after nominations for this year’s King and Queen."
