AN INTREPID Old Hill fundraiser drove from Birmingham to Bucharest in a beat-up taxi he bought for £375.

Josh James and his friend Ben Homer drove 2,200 miles taking in seven countries in seven days and raised £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The 25-year-old said: "The idea was to find a budget vehicle that cost less than £500 to drive 2000 miles across Europe.

"We found this London taxi that had 481,000 on the clock and thought this was the perfect and most crazy choice to go for."

"The taxi was brilliant, it just kept on going, at the end the engine was so loud but it still got us there in the end.

"I am really proud of the achievement and I'd like to thank everyone who supported us."

The journey went smoothly through England, Belgium and Germany until the pair hit the Austrian mountains when the taxi became a little more temperamental.

He added: "We only paid £375 so we cannot complain, and it got us all the way to Bucharest, over 2,200 miles and got through getting stuck up a mountain in Romania.

"The engine overheated several times, there was plenty of sitting at the sides of roads waiting for it to cool down."

Josh wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK after his mother had a scare last year.

He said: "Dealing with this difficult situation made me think of all the other people out there that have a loved one or family member who is diagnosed with cancer.

"Understanding how hard it is to accept and come to terms with this sort of news I decided that I wanted to do something about it.

"So I decided that I should do something, inspired by the things I know best cars, videos and strange ideas."

Josh filmed his adventures for his YouTube channel Jish and even took a drone along to shoot the stunning landscapes they drove through from the air.
