A CONWOMAN from Cradley Heath has been found guilty of getting a vulnerable, blind Halesowen man in his 90s suffering from dementia to buy her a £188,000 house.

Veronica Robinson has been told she will be sent to jail for conning the World War Two hero after controlling his finances and taking him on regular trips to his bank to withdraw money.

The man who was awarded the MBE for his services to industry during his working career had been taking £1,000 a month out of his account but that amount increased under the influence of the twice divorced Robinson.

She isolated the man from his friends and family until she was in a position where she was in charge of his financial affairs, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Mark Jackson, prosecuting, said she systematically abused her position of trust so she could defraud the man out of a great deal of money and that included the purchase of the three bedroomed property in Beecher Street, Halesowen.

Robinson of High Haden Road, Cradley Heath had denied fraud by abusing her position as a cleaner and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

But the jury after retiring for eight and a half hours to consider the evidence returned unanimous guilty verdicts on both charges.

Robert Homer, her partner, of the same address, had denied aiding and abetting fraud and he was cleared by the jury.

Judge Barry Berlin remanded 61-year-old Robinson in custody for the preparation of a pre-sentence report and the case against her is expected to be finalised on April 21.

The judge told Robinson, a woman with no previous convictions, he needed time to think carefully about what were two extremely serious charges.

"I take the view this is a very serious matter indeed - a grave matter for which there will be an immediate custodial sentence of some length."

In evidence Robinson had told the jury the man insisted on buying the house in her name because he did not want his family to put him into a home.

She said it had been agreed she would look after him until he died and maintained he had the mental capacity to make decisions.

She said they had been in a loving relationship, she respected him and he respected her. She stressed all she had done was to look after him.
