MANOR Lane Post Office is closings its doors for the last time on Friday, April 21.

The closure has sent shockwaves through the community with pensioners complaining they are now miles from the nearest post office.

The post office is in the Co-op store which will be closing as well.

Halesowen South councillor Alan Taylor said: “This is shocking news, and the only way people found out was because their paper subscriptions were cancelled. There are so many pensioners who rely on the Manor Way Post Office because they do not drive, they will now will have to struggle to get up by the Stag and Three Horseshoes or Quinton.

“It certainly is not good news that we are losing a post office and supermarket when the Co-op closes but it could not have been profitable. Perhaps another business will take on the post office services.”

Katie Ennis, from the Post Office, confirmed “regretfully” the Manor Lane Post Office was closing on April 21 and said: “The provision of a Post Office service to our customers in the local community is important to us, and we will continue to work hard to restore services in the area as soon as possible.

“We would welcome any applications from potential retail partners interested in running Manor Lane Post Office on our behalf. If you know anyone who is interested please give them our agency recruitment team contact telephone number 0845 601 6260.

“My colleagues in this team will be pleased to provide the specific details about the vacancy at Manor Lane.2 Manor Lane Post Office customer Ken Tivey said: “There were no notices or any warning of this closure and all the nearest post offices are not walkable, and now we cannot even get a paper delivered.”
