AWARD-WINNING drama group Mayhem Theatre are performing in Halesowen this weekend.

The group swept the board at the Worcestershire Theatre Festival this year and are staging its winning plays on Sunday.

The Somers Sports and Social Club is being transformed into the Hunnington Fringe Theatre for one night only.

Founder of Mayhem Theatre Group Mark Moran said: "This is going to be a fantastic night of theatre in Halesowen.

"We wanted to stage our award-winning plays in the town that we are from."

He added: "The upstairs room at the Somers Sports and Social Club makes a gem of a little theatre."

The plays being performed are Bert and The Librarian.

At the Worcestershire Theatre Festival David Francis and Mikey Crump were both nominated for best actor in Bert and Tim Tim Tolkien's artwork won best set.

Ruth Cattell won best actress for The Librarian and Linda Evans was nominated for best director and it won best play.

Bert is a dark comedy about a man in a car about to kill himself but who then hears a voice which changes his life, and the Librarian is about a woman who has only lived her life through books but a chance encounter turns everything upside down.

Mr Moran said: "We really are looking forward to performing these plays in front of a hometown audience, it should be a great night of award-winning entertainment."

The Hunnington Fringe Festival is at the Somers Sports and Social Club, Grange Road, on Sunday at 7pm.

Tickets are £5 and are available from Spexmaniax Opticians, Hagley Road or by calling 0121 550 7977.
