LABOUR’S Halesowen and Rowley Regis general election candidate has vowed to fight for a ‘Workers Brexit’ should he make it to parliament.
Belle Vale councillor Ian Cooper set out his plans to help businesses thrive while protecting the rights of workers once Britain is out of the EU.
Last week, incumbent Tory MP James Morris told the News that he was the “strong voice” needed to take the area through Brexit negotiations and deliver a local plan.
But Cllr Cooper said: “If I'm elected, I will respect the referendum result. But it would be a disaster to hand a blank cheque to the Tories to rip up our rights at work, to destroy the trade arrangements our businesses rely on and to let the unscrupulous poison our environment.
“James Morris will vote through a Tory Brexit that's just a race to the bottom, and makes life tougher for ordinary people.
“Instead I'll fight for a Workers Brexit, using the new powers we have to help businesses grow, to fight for a fair days pay for a fair days work and to make sure our environment is protected.”
