A HALESOWEN man who got involved in a fight described as “handbags” has been fined £300.

Worcester Magistrates Court heard Wilson Hunt, aged 33, was caught up in a fight between two other men outside Shakeey's in Angel Street at around 6am on Saturday, April 15.

Sarah Hurd, prosecuting, said: "There were about 30 people outside Shakeey's and CCTV shows a fight going on between two men. A third man, Hunt, was on the periphery."

Hunt was later seen on CCTV adopting a boxer's stance after another man took his shirt off and waved his hands in an aggressive manner.

Miss Hurd said: "Punches were thrown but none landed.

"This is probably as a result of members of the public and security staff trying to split it up."

Gary Harper, defending, said the other man was provoking Hunt for around 10 or 15 minutes before the fight broke out.

He said: "It was the kind of thing that would be described in rugby parlance as handbags.

"If he could have kept his cool he would have been able to walk away."

Hunt, of Laurel Lane, Halesowen, admitted using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The court heard he already owed £6,000 to court and was being pursued by bailiffs.

Brent Robinson, chair of magistrates, said: "This is handbags but it's the kind of handbags that people who go out for a night to enjoy themselves find incredibly upsetting. It's out of order."

Magistrates ordered Hunt to pay £135 costs and a £85 victim surcharge as well as the fine.
