KIND cyclists from Halesowen raised more than £1,000 by completing 100 laps of a track as part of a national memorial event.

Halesowen Cycling Club held the fundraiser at the club’s headquarters in Manor Way on behalf of the Cardiac Risk in the Young (Cry) charity.

And the efforts of the participants saw the club raise £1,100 through the event, which took place on Sunday, May 7.

The nationwide event was organised in memory of Derbyshire cyclist Charlie Craig who died earlier this year at the age of just 15.

Charlie, a national U16 cyclo cross trophy winner and highly rated cyclist, died in his sleep without warning in January.

David Viner, chairman of Halesowen Cycling Club, said: “Along with many other clubs Halesowen wanted to pay their respects to Charlie and his family by trying to raise funds to help prevent the occurrence of future tragedies.”
