A DELIVERY driver foiled a £30,000 drug smuggling plot when he became suspicious about a package he dropped off at a house in Halesowen.

The man thought all was not right when he was met outside the property in Victoria Road for a second time as he delivered a parcel.

He reported his suspicions to bosses and they opened a further package due to be delivered to the house, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

The parcel which had been posted in Amsterdam was found to contain three-and-a-half kilo's of cannabis, said Mark Phillips prosecuting.

Dharminder Sunner denied all knowledge of the controlled drugs when questioned but the voice on calls made to the delivery firm matched his during a recorded police interview.

Mr Phillips said further inquiries then revealed the 35-year-old had made trips to Amsterdam the previous month and four days before the delivery was made to the Halesowen house.

The ticket he used for the trip had been paid for by someone else, added Mr Phillips, but it was booked on a telephone belonging to Sunner.

When further interviewed by police Sunner then told the officers he had been paid £300 to collect the parcel in Halesowen and he had been threatened with violence if he failed to do the job Sunner, of Claremont Road, Wolverhampton, admitted importing cannabis and he was given a 10 month jail term suspended for 18 months.

He was further ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work in the community.
