A DETERMINED Halesowen man is turning on the gas by taking on gruelling challenges to raise hundreds for charity.

Adam Skett is set to complete the last of his ’12 challenges in 12 months’ this weekend as he looks to raise money and awareness for the Stroke Association.

The 38-year-old will take part in the Avenger Triathlon at Ragley Hall on June 11, having taken part in 11 other events including the Bear Grills Challenge, the Black Country 10k run, Wolf Run and the Birmingham Half Marathon.

Father-of-three Mr Skett, who is a gas engineer, said he decided to support the Stroke Association which has affected members of his family in the past.

He said: “I’ve been taking on these challenges since last year and I’m hoping to raise more than £600 in total for the Stroke Association.

“It has been extremely tough going but I’ve been getting through them and there are obvious long-term health benefits as a result.

“This final challenge will be gruelling as it will involve swimming, cycling and then running, which will be some going. I only completed the Exeter marathon several weeks ago and still feeling the effects of that.

“I decided to choose the Stroke Association to support this time around as it is very much a cause close to my family’s heart. We have lost relatives to this while others have also suffered the effects of having a stroke.

“It is also important to raise awareness and ensure people recognise the symptoms and can act fast.

“Stroke is one of the greatest health challenges but doesn’t get the attention or funding it deserves.

“All support helps fund research, campaign for better stroke prevention and care, and provides much needed support for stroke survivors.”
