A KIND-hearted Halesowen women is making a final fundraising push to help her achieve her ambition of carrying out voluntary work in Nepal.

Abbie Whitehouse-Marks is getting prepared to travel to Nepal with the International Citizen Service, Voluntary Services Overseas (ICS VSO) for three months from July where she will help set up new youth and women’s projects.

The government backed initiative will raise awareness of gender recognition, adolescent and youth sexual health and violence towards women and girls.

The 22-year-old, who works at a children’s residential home and for West Midlands Ambulance Service, needs to raise £800 and has been busy arranging events to help her reach the target by June 16.

Her fundraising efforts suffered a blow last month when she had to cancel a climb up Snowdonia after being rushed into hospital to have her appendix removed so she is looking for as much support as possible.

From June 9-11, Abbie has organised a charity weekend at the Kings Arms in Toll End Road, Tipton where there will be a car wash, darts knock out, pool tournament, a DJ, live singer and a raffle.

The former Windsor High School pupil said: “I've always had a will to help others and I thought this would be a once in a life time opportunity to do something that will help so many people.

“It is something I can continue to do so once I'm back home. I'm going to set up a Government project to help with violence towards woman and young girls, give advice about sexual heath to adolescents and young adults and generally bringing everyone together as a community.

“I will be staying with a host family while I'm there living in a mud hut so that will be interesting.”

She has set up a JustGiving page where people can donate and anyone wishing to support her can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Abbie-Marks1
