THE glitz and glamour of Las Vegas will be coming to Halesowen as a group of entertainers celebrate their 50th birthday.

Startime Variety will mark the special occasion with a show ‘Viva Las Vegas’ featuring music from legends including Elvis, Tina Turner, Cher, the Rat Pack, Prince, Elton John and Celine Dion.

They will also be doing numbers from Cirque Du Soleil’s acclaimed Beatles’ ‘Love’ and Michael Jackson ‘One’ shows.

Startime Variety was started in 1967 by Christine Herman (now Davenport) and was called Tenterfields Ladies Club.

They held their first concert at Halesowen Grammar school on March 2 1967, with the programme priced at 6d (2 1/2p).

In 1970 men joined the group and they were renamed Tenterfield Variety Club before a further rebranding in 1971 when it became Startime Variety Club. In later years the name changed to what it is called today Startime Variety.

The anniversary show, produced by Kirsty Aldridge and Leanne Ditchfield is being held at Cornbow Hall in Halesowen from Wednesday, June 28 to Saturday, July 1.

Evening performances start at 7.15pm while a matinee show on Saturday afternoon will get underway at 2.15pm.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £9 for concessions while a family ticket is priced at £35. They can be obtained by calling the booking line on 07901 055685 or via www.startimevariety.co.uk
