HUNDREDS of mourners turned Halesowen into a sea of colour this afternoon as they celebrated the life of tragic hit-and-run victim Benjamin Morse.
The 36-year-old Arsenal fanatic, who lived in Yew Tree Road, died after he was hit by a car at around 12.15am on May 1 while walking down Cherry Street.
Mourners – dressed in their favourite football team shirts – turned out to St John’s Church in their droves to pay their last respects to Benjamin.
The nearby William Shenstone pub was packed with colourful funeral-goers in West Brom, Wolves, Aston Villa, and of course Arsenal shirts, all coming together to mark the life of the much-loved labourer.
As the coffin was carried up the drive and into the High Street Church, the congregation were on their feet, cheering and clapping in a fitting tribute to Benjamin.
Following his death, Benjamin’s family led the tributes to the fun-loving former Halesowen College pupil.
A family statement said: “Benjamin was a kind and loving son, brother, uncle and friend who would do anything for anyone.
“He was sports mad, fun loving and an Arsenal fanatic and has left a huge hole in our lives; our family will never be the same again.
“We appreciate the support from family, friends and the community but would ask that the police are left to do their job.”
