SHOPPERS have picked a 'pawesome' cause to be an Oldbury supermarket's charity of the year.

For the next 12 months, Sainsbury’s will raise funds and awareness for Guide Dogs thanks to a customer vote.

Charity representatives joined Sainsbury’s staff over the weekend to kickstart the partnership by hosting a tombola, tabletop sale and bucket collections if the foyer.

Mary Conner, the charity's community fundraising development officer, said: “Thank you to everyone who came to support us at Sainsbury’s Oldbury over the weekend.

"We’re really excited to have been chosen as the store’s new local charity of the year as the partnership will help us to raise awareness for Guide Dogs within the community and provide a chance for customers and colleagues to meet and speak to us."

Katy Bradshaw-sole, manager at the Freeth Street store, added: “I’d like to thank all of our customers for their support on the day and can’t wait to see how the partnership develops over the next year. ”
