AN OLDBURY worker has been killed following a reported explosion at a recycling plant in the town.

Police and paramedics were called to the Innovative Environmental Solutions on Union Road in Oldbury where the tragedy had occurred shortly before 1.50am on Monday (August 7).

A man, aged in his 50s, suffered serious burns and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital but sadly later died.

Two other men also suffered burns with one also taken to QE Hospital and the other taken to Sandwell with minor injuries The matter has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive to establish how the incident happened.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “A man has died following an industrial accident at industrial premises on Union Road, Oldbury.

“Police were called by the Fire service at just before 1.50am. Three men were taken to hospital where sadly a man in his 50s passed away.

“Two men in their 30s and 40s remain in a stable condition.

“The case has been passed to the Health and Safety Executive and the Coroner to establish the cause of the incident.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that several ambulances, specialist hazardous response team and trauma doctor rushed to the scene to treat the casualties.
