AN 11-year-old boy who died after being hit by a lorry in Oldbury has been described as an “amazing lad”.

Kyle Bastable was struck by the vehicle near to the Shell garage on Birchley Island just before 10pm last Thursday evening (August 31).

Also known as Joe by his family members – the former Rowley Hall Primary School pupil suffered serious injuries and despite the best efforts of medics, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Numerous floral tributes were paid to Kyle in the days following the incident, many incorporating Rowley Hall’s motto ‘We fly high’. Mourners have also laid a large teddy bear at the scene.

One message left on a bunch of flowers read: “So sorry to hear you are gone Kyle. You were an amazing lad and will be missed by so many.

“You will always be in our thoughts and we will treasure the memories we have of you. Rest in paradise.”

Another said: “I had a lot of fun. You will never be forgotten. RIP Kyle.” Adding: “Star of Rowley Hall Y6 production.”

Police are now appealing for information following Kyle’s death, from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
