IT’S not just Halesowen town centre which will be illuminating this Christmas after thousands of pounds was raised to light up Shell Corner.
The Shell Corner Partnership – a community group headed up by the three Halesowen North councillors – has been providing lights on the lampposts in Long Lane for the past couple of years.
But after carrying out their own fundraising events, together with money provided by local businesses, 25 lampposts will be sparkling during this festive period.
Cllr Stuart Henley said: “This year we have had a great response from local businesses and residents who have sponsored 11 of the 25 lampposts where the LED trees will be attached to.”
The lights will be switched on at a special event next Friday, November 24, from 4pm, with people invited to Long Lane Library from 3.15pm where drinks for adults and treats for youngsters will be offered.
Cllr Hilary Bills added: “We’ve raised almost £1,000 from table top sales and sponsorship, as well as funding from the community forum, which will only make the Christmas lights in Long Lane even better.”
