SHOPPERS can park for free in council-run car parks in Sandwell on two Saturdays in the run up to Christmas in a bid to encourage people to shop local.
There will be no charge at the car parks in Blackheath, Cradley Heath, Old Hill and Oldbury on Saturday December 16 and 23, while Sunday parking is already free.
Councillor David Hosell, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for highways and environment, said: “Parking will be free on the two Saturdays leading up to Christmas for any shoppers using council-run car parks in town centres across the borough.
“We hope it will encourage more people to shop local.”
Car parks offering free parking on December include:
Blackheath – Park Street, Park Street West (pictured above) and Short Street
Cradley Heath – Corngreaves Road, Graingers Lane, Northgate Street/Prince Street and Northgate/Graingers Lane
Old Hill – Highgate Street
Oldbury – Albert Street, Low Town and West Bromwich Street
