STUDENTS and staff at Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy have performed their latest musical production to sold-out audiences.
Members of the Performing and Production Arts faculty captivated audiences with their Beauty and the Beast production, taking them on a journey of talking teapots, teacups and magical objects, all based on the Disney film.
Since September, 120 students from years seven to 11 at the academy have been working on the production, which has also been a part of the key stage four pupils’ BTEC qualifications in drama, musical theatre and music.
The entire performance was student run, with students from every age group managing the running of backstage operations, lighting, and sound, as well as performing all acting and the musical items throughout the show.
The students performed to sell-out audiences on February 27 and 28, while also performing a special matinee showing to an audience from three invited local primary schools.
However, a performance which was planned for the evening of Thursday, March 1, was postponed due to poor weather conditions but has now been rearranged for tonight (Tuesday, March 6) at 6.30pm.
Marie McMahon, executive principal of Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy, said: "I am running out of superlatives for how amazing this show was.
“It was the biggest, brightest, best, most professional production from Team OSCA yet. I felt like I have spent the night at an actual West End Theatre show.
“I’m not ashamed to admit the poignancy of some of the final scenes brought a tear to my eye more than once! The cast were simply spellbinding.”
