HISTORY buffs who are keen to try their hand as a Langley tour guide are being invited to sign up for a free training day.

The event for budding ‘Volunteer Heritage Walk Leaders’ will take place on Saturday (May 12) from 10am until 4pm at Langley Library, with lunch provided.

Led by Fran and Vicki, of Walk Works CIC, it will be an introduction to making walks and talks that are engaging, using people’s own passions for Langley or, more broadly, the history of Oldbury and the Black Country.

The training day is part of the Friends of Langley Library’s ‘Within Walking Distance – Landmarks of Langley’ project, which is mapping the historic landmarks of the area.

The culmination of the project, which is being supported by the National Heritage Lottery and Arts Council England, will be a free printed heritage map of the area, telling the story of these local landmarks, which will be distributed to households, business’s and community groups within walking distance of the library.

To book a place on the Volunteer Heritage Walk Leaders training day, call 07970 487742 or email walkworks.cic@gmail.com.
