A TALENTED group of Halesowen dancers have been given a funding boost as they head off to represent England in the Dance World Cup this weekend.

Jordon School of Dance and Performing Arts was chosen by Persimmon Homes Central to become one of its Community Champions, with the school beating off the challenge of other local groups to receive a match-funded donation of £1,000.

It is the third year that dancers with the Halesowen-based troupe have represented England in the international competition and this year they will fly out to compete in Sitges, Barcelona, from Friday (June 22) until June 30, with school principals Donna and Joanne May.

Donna said: “In the first year, in Jersey, we won one gold and several silver and bronzes. Last year, in Germany, we won three golds and several silver and bronzes, so we really have our sights set on more medals.

“Thirty-eight team members will compete in dances from solos, duets and trios to large groups.

“We have to raise a lot of money in order to compete - our costume bill alone is £15,000. Fundraising includes bag packs, a fun day, cake sales, raffles and old costume sales, so to have a donation such as this is fantastic.

“We cannot thank Persimmon Homes enough.”

Sarah Read, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are delighted to support Jordon School of Dance.

“Clearly, the club has some very talented youngsters amongst its dancers and inspires them to be the best they can be, whilst also having fun.

“We wish them well in the competition this summer.”
