A 31-year-old Oldbury man has been jailed for six months after threatening to kill his former girlfriend and smash her home.

Recorder Peter Andrews QC said it was clear Andrew Cosnett had left Samantha Mullings extremely frightened after the break-up of their on-off relationship.

Sentencing him at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday December 22 he ruled only immediate custody was appropriate.

He added: “She was very upset and fearful of your intentions.”

Cosnett, of Hartlebury Road, admitted putting Miss Mullings in fear of violence and also breaching a six month suspended prison sentence imposed just eight days earlier for producing cannabis.

Salma Bahia, prosecuting, said Cosnett had been abusive to Miss Mullings after coming across her in the Londonderry public house.

She left but he called her and left a voice mail which said, "I'm going to kill you." and he followed it up with a second voice mail which said, "Your house is going to be smashed."

The court heard how the incident left Miss Mullings extremely concerned by the messages and she was fearful for her daughter.

After his arrest Cosnett told police he was ashamed of the way he behaved having drunk six pints and a bottle of vodka earlier that evening.

Makhan Shoker, defending, stressed to the court Cosnett had no intention of carrying out the threats, adding: "They were angry words from a man who was very drunk."

He said Cosnett now accepted the relationship was finally over and what he had done was "totally wrong."

The Recorder brought into effect the six month suspended sentence and said a six month term for the threats to his former partner would run concurrently.
