A HALESOWEN park will get state-of-the-art gym equipment thanks to a £4.5m health programme being rolled out across the borough.
Huntingtree Park in Halesowen is one of five borough green spaces set to get a 'family health hub' as part of the healthy towns programme which aims to improve health and prevent childhood obesity across the borough.
The work will take place after Dudley Council and Primary Care Trust were successful in winning a slice of the Government’s £30million Healthy Community Challenge Fund.
The council is appealing for people to learn more about the multi-million pound health programme by logging onto its website at www.dudley.gov.uk.
A link from the homepage offers more information on the project.
Councillor David Stanley, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “The healthy towns project is progressing well and will benefit people across the whole of the borough.
"I strongly recommend people take a look at the website to find out more about this multi-million pound improvement programme in our parks.”
Dudley’s healthy towns programme, entitled ‘Let’s Go Outside’, aims to encourage families to make the most of outdoor areas by transforming parks and play areas into ‘family health hubs’.
The hubs will, through a programme of activities and events, promote healthy lifestyles for all ages and help reduce the level of obesity in the borough.
The four other borough parks to get hubs are: Silver Jubilee Park in Coseley, The Dell and Fens Pool in Pensnett and Mary Stevens Park in Stourbridge.
A series of frequently asked questions are now included at www.dudley.gov.uk to keep borough residents informed on the progress of the scheme.
