POLICE have launched a new operation targeting thieves after the number of burglaries rose in Quinton.

And residents complaints about the persistent anti-social behaviour problems at Quinton High Street could see a new Domehawk camera installed in the area.

Sergeant Jeff Doak from Quinton Neighbourhood Policing Team outlined what his team was doing to combat crime.

He said: “Following a slight increase in the number of burglaries in the Quinton area we have started an operation that is focused on reducing burglaries and catching offenders - Operation Ignite.

“As part of this a mixture of high visibility and plain clothed officers will be in the area at the key times when offences are being committed.

He added: “In addition to this we will continue to visit known offenders to ensure they are not committing crime.”

“Local officers will also be available in your community to offer crime prevention advice and support.

“A number of good arrests have been made and substantial sentences have been given to offenders.”

Concerning the anti-social behaviour the team are drafting in help from neighbouring policing teams.

Sgt Doak said: “Firstly, the two Edgbaston constituency anti-social behaviour cars have been tasked with patrolling the area at the key times that the behaviour is taking place.

“We will be patrolling the area and will working with local residents and shop owners to identify offenders and monitor the problem.”

He added: “We are also looking at the possibility of locating a Domehawk CCTV camera in the area that will allow us to record footage of the area and collect evidence again persistent offenders.“ There are several police meetings that residents can attend over the next two weeks, for details check out www.west-midlands.police.uk.
