TWO MEN have been arrested following a car crash in Oldbury last night which left one man dead and another badly injured.

Sandwell Police responded to the collision, involving two cars, on Churchbridge, around 1am today (Monday).

A Subaru Impreza and a Fiat Qubo were involved in the collision. The driver of the Fiat, and a male passenger were taken to hospital following the incident. The driver, a 24-year-old man, died a short time later in hospital. The 44-year-old passenger received non-life threatening injuries. A third man in the vehicle was slightly injured.

The occupants of the Subaru left the scene, and two men, aged 16 and 17, were arrested nearby.

Police enquiries lead officers to believe the Subaru had been involved in a burglary at a nearby shop a short time earlier in the evening.

Officers had been called to the Co-op store, on Tame Road, at 00.54am today after a member of the public reported seeing people trying to break into the shop. A car was seen to leave the scene.

The two detained teenagers were arrested on suspicion of burglary. The 16-year-old continues to receive hospital treatment for arm and facial injuries.

Sergeant Ferris Hatheson, from the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We have launched an investigation into the events of last night, in which one man tragically lost his life.

"We appeal for any witnesses to the burglary, or the collision, to come forward and contact police to help with our inquiries into this incident.

"Specialist officers are supporting the family of the man who suffered fatal injuries at this very difficult time."

Churchbridge was closed whilst the vehicles were recovered and enquiries were made at the scene. The road reopened at 6am.
